Classical Guitar Shed had a proven teaching method and no platform to deliver it
Allen Mathews spent more than fifteen years working out what most guitar instruction misses: that technique without awareness is hollow, and that structure and expression have to be taught together. By 2021, he had the method, an audience, and a growing library of free lessons. What he did not have was anywhere to put it.
There was no learning portal. To turn The Woodshed from a teaching philosophy into a structured online program, Classical Guitar Shed needed real infrastructure that did not yet exist. Gated levels, scripted practice sessions, a video-review workflow, a paid membership, and a free resource library deep enough to bring new students in the door. Off-the-shelf course hosts could sell videos. None of them could run the way Allen actually teaches.

Four Eyes built Classical Guitar Shed’s learning platform from the ground up
Four Eyes designed and developed the entire platform, including the my.classicalguitarshed.com portal, with nothing to migrate from and nothing to inherit. At its core, Four Eyes was built on LearnDash and then heavily customized, extending the LMS well beyond its defaults to match the way The Woodshed is taught rather than forcing the teaching to match the software.
On top of LearnDash, Four Eyes built custom functionality to run the parts that make the program work: the 30-level gated progression that releases

content as students earn it, the scripted 20-minute practice sessions, and the personal video-review workflow that lets members submit their playing and get feedback inside the same platform. [Confirm the exact scope of the custom apps so this paragraph names what they do rather than what they appear to do.]
Four Eyes integrated Easy Digital Downloads to handle paid digital downloads directly through the site, and made heavy use of Custom Post Types with custom displays to run everything outside the membership wall: the free lessons and articles archive, the free sheet music library, the chord and scale reference libraries, and the beginner, intermediate, and advanced learning paths.
Overall, the work unlocked:
- A structured, self-paced curriculum that releases content level by level instead of dumping everything at once
- The ability to deliver scripted practice sessions and collect student videos for personal review inside one platform
- Full ownership of the platform and the content, with no recurring course-host fees skimming every sale
- A free resource library that doubles as a lead engine, all managed inside WordPress
- Paid digital downloads are handled directly on the site through Easy Digital Downloads
- Room to keep adding levels, resources, and members without re-architecting the system
“Four Eyes’ ability to customize my site and provide solutions has been invaluable.” Allen Mathews, Founder, Classical Guitar Shed
The results: a platform built from nothing, a growing membership, and room to keep building
Classical Guitar Shed now runs on infrastructure built specifically for how it teaches, not a template bent into shape. The portal has supported steady year-over-year growth since launch, and the membership continues to expand without the platform getting in the way. New levels, new resources, and new members slot into a system designed to absorb them.
That is the point of the whole build. With the platform handling the structure, Allen can spend his attention where it belongs, helping adult learners around the world stop fighting their instrument and finally play beautifully.
